The History of the Underground River
The
underground river has fascinated me and in scouring the classical books written
hundreds of years ago; I have found some form of understanding when it is
applied to Presbyterian preaching. If
you recall the movie and book “A River Runs Through It” with Brad Pitt; it is
about two brothers who have opposite or different personalities. One is a little wild and crazy; the other one
is more of a scholar who organizes every single thought and equation in life. This is important because Edgar Allen Poe
refers to this underground river in his book on the casket and the influence of
alcohol. Poe was a serious alcoholic but
he deemed alcohol as a passion of his life to bring him closer to his true
meaning in life. In other words, he was
a lie until he was under some drink which was his true self or character. The story of the underground river begins
with a book written by Goethe. A
character named Faust is into alchemy and plays with science and the
occult. The church deemed alchemy evil
and excommunicated anybody who experimented with it or was into alchemy. The underground river is a land of the dead
where two worlds are separated; life and Hades (similar to hell). I did not find too much meaning in Faust or
Goethe’s work. Next in my list of works
was the Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Coleridge. Coleridge is an Irish author who also wrote
Kubla Khan; a Mongol warrior. This is
where the term Xanadu came from and why it is associated with the Mongols. Coleridge refers to this dream world as an
underground river that people must find, similar to a dream. It is some search for a human character and
possibly your true human character but Coleridge doesn’t really justify matters
like Poe who said alcohol was this dream state.
I did not see Coleridge trying to define this crazy or bold world
comparison to the neat and tidy categorization of say a structured life. Coleridge was not strong enough to possess
the true meaning. The one and the only
piece of classical literature that threw me over the top and said to me what I
had been looking for in the underground river; was the communist revolutionary
Fedor Dostoevsky; the inspiration for both Engels and Marx. Dostoevsky is a Russian icon, far greater
than the Tsar and he inspires or sends logical thoughts to the communist
Bolsheviks before the Russian Revolution in 1917. He speaks about a crystal palace and goes
into the most fascinating logical thought about communism. It spoke to me on many levels and put
together an elaborate structure I had in my mind but very different than the
Russian revolution in 1917. I did not
read War and Peace, nearly four times the size of his masterpiece “Notes From
the Underground.” He chooses a frozen
wasteland as his underground river and he elaborates it in the most metaphorical
communist thought no other author could ever convey. Hence, I choose him as my all time favorite
author of all times for the mere fact he completed the puzzle for me and my
academic search in literature. This is
how I finalized and rooted out the French philosophical school called
“existentialism.” The main father or
scholar on the existentialist school, invented by the French and the basis of
the French Revolution or the Jacobins; the first official terrorist group in
history; was Jean Jacque Rousseau. I
nearly had a headache and had to put my head down after reading a few chapters
of his work. This is why Ann Coulter
finished this area of existentialism for me; she read the father of it,
Rousseau and then his pupils; all French authors and philosophers. The underground river now is a frozen palace
or crystal palace similar to the Goethe or Coleridge myth about the living dead
and Hades. Dostoevsky to me was the shot
heard around the world, the chain reaction of a complex nuclear chain reaction
I could now scientifically prove or disprove.
I read Dostoevsky in 1990 or 1991; understood it 100% and go on to find
the existential school of philosophy for my final and conclusive conclusion on
the 20th Century. Now, if you
recall “The River Runs Through It” it is about two brothers; two opposite
characters and tells their autobiography.
At the end, they show the author standing in the river and reminiscing
about one of the two characters; whom Brad Pitt portrayed. All this to me were the final piece and the
Presbyterian teaching a man I called “Mr. Frank” tried to teach me in my
youth. Mr. Neubauer died not long after
the movie, maybe within 5 years and he told me he was the commander of the
ground forces after the atomic bomb was dropped in 1945. A Captain in the army
and a Park Ranger with a college degree when World War II began; he told me the
story of what he saw or felt in 1945 as he led this ground force into Japan for
the surrender. Keep in mind, I am only
20-21 years old now and I have figured out for the first time; the entire world
and the 20th Century! Mclean
says that no matter how he looks back and the tragedy of his brother, (yes
another Greek tragedy depicting the chaos of Greek characters, a contradiction
and a curse); he shows me the ultimate mind of a warrior and the pinnacle of
what the Greek General described in war during the Peloponnesian War of Greek
history and Sparta
This
is important because I did not have to spend a lifetime to find our or search
for what I now knew or found in these preaching. I now could close my eyes and travel far in
the future or distant places, as described in the River Runs Through It as a
thread of history that he was standing in the water and realized. The power of that knowledge enabled a human
being to exit space and time and exist with the forethought what everybody knew
who died in war! Have you figure it out
yet? It is the same tragedy another
author wrote about a US Marines General named Chester Pulley. A great Marine General, his son wrote a book
about how he always had tried to live up to the name his four star General

I know cheap when I see it. I know power and strength when I know
it. A female government employee of a
southern bent once tried to teach me about sex, power, and Catholics or
Protestants. First off, sex and females
are not power. Who females sleep with or
refuse to sleep with is not power. A lot
of females, especially Catholic females and even southern females; confuse sex
and power. Sex is nothing more than
money, a form of power. Power is
organized, is in a forward motion, and has either membership or
association. Clandestine membership or
association is a form of power.
Clandestine sex or internet sex is not power, perhaps money. Power and authority is the ability to make
widespread decisions, not in a single stroke of glory, that affect an organized
whole such as the world or a nation. Power
is thus organized and membership with this organization or secret group. Sex is not a dream or rape dream women,
especially Catholic and southern women fantasize about. It is instead a money dream that makes things
better or problems go away. So power is
not a females decision to have sex or not; perhaps a rape dream. Typically, female intuition is defined as a
special form of communication nobody can tune into or decipher; only a sexual
partner can. An example would be to
throw money at a very hostile, belligerent, or drunk lady who is knocking at
your door looking for a fight. Money
turns females into pussycats because they are plagued with curses and problems
in life which they associate with sex.
It only females the same but it does not taste or smell the same; a
misconception. Therefore, rape dreams

the ability to impose one’s will on others is hidden only at the point of
